Veronica (“Ronnye”) Vargas Stidvent

Executive Director

Veronica “Ronnye” Stidvent is the Executive Director of the Center for Women in Law at The University of Texas at Austin.  Previously, she was the Chancellor of Western Governors University – Texas.  She also served as Head of Education and Training at Dimensional Fund Advisors, as a lecturer and director of Subiendo Academy at The University of Texas McCombs School of Business, and as the inaugural director of the Center for Politics and Governance at Texas’s LBJ School of Public Affairs.

Experienced in government, Ronnye served as Special Assistant to the Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Office of Management and Budget from 2001–2003 and as Special Assistant to the President of the United States for Policy from 2003–2004.  In 2004, she was appointed by President George W. Bush as Assistant Secretary for Policy in the United States Department of Labor, a position she held until 2006.

Ronnye currently is a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Cultural Affairs and previously served as a commissioner of the Texas Commission on Human Rights.  She serves on the Board of Directors of Amplify Credit Union and on the Board of Trustees for Southwestern University.  She is a recipient of the Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award, the El Paso in Austin Trailblazer Award and of the National Association of Hispanic Publications Latina Role Model Award.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from Yale Law School.
